Fred Mitchell Award

The Fred Mitchell Award is handed out annually from among 750 eligible colleges for the most outstanding kicker from an FCS, Division II, Division III, NAIA or community college. The trophy is presented during the National Football Foundation ceremony to the placekicker who excels on the football field and in the community. The award is named after Fred Mitchell, an award-winning sportswriter with the Chicago Tribune for more than 41 years who kicked for Wittenberg University and is a member of the school's athletic Hall of Fame, as well as the American Football Kicking Hall of Fame.
